Standard 1A is from my ESC 757 class, Linguistic for TESOL Bilingual Teachers, that I took at Lehman. This class looked at language as a system, and allowed for us to use our knowledge of the inter-related aspects of language to help our ELLs acquire English language and literacy. Additionally, the second artifact comes from my ESC 760 class, Second Language Learning and Teaching. This class allowed for us to examine the sociolinguistic and psycholinguistic foundations of L2 acquisition. Also, it aided in helping me to develop an inquiring stance about second language students and their process of language learning.

Both artifacts addressed the standard in that, they both show that I understand the influence of the L1 on second language acquisition, and the role of errors and targeted corrective feedback. Both artifacts were good language models for the students in that, I demonstrated my understanding of language as a system, and in turn, turn keyed this instruction to my students.

Both artifacts contributed to my professional understanding, skills, and disposition about language as a system, and giving corrective feedback, in a positive way. As an ENL teacher, it is my responsibility to understand the influence of my students L1 on their L2 acquisition. Wherefore, I ensure that I am providing the right equipments, tools, and feedback to make them better equipped in the L2 without them compromising their L1.

Yes, completing this artifact impacted students and student learning. In that, my students are able to identify and use the language the correct way due to the fact the fact that they are aware of the inter-related aspects of English language. Additionally, by me giving students corrective and actionable feedback they in turn hold themselves accountable, and vice versa.
